alpha pattern excluding specific letters from results

Postby foilflex » Fri Jul 18, 2014 9:01 pm

I am trying to generate a 6 character unique alpha string excluding the letters I, S and O.
i am using a pattern generator and need the first character to be a fixed letter.
the pattern i currently have is:
\AAAAAA
this is generating a fixed A at the begining of the resultant string and random characters for the other five alphas.
how do i exclude the letters I, S and O from the random alpha results.
thanks in advance for your help.

Only way is to use regular expression instead of simple pattern. Please try to play with something like:
$Regexp([A-HJ-NP-RT-Z]+)

It just skips I,S and P letters and repeat.

I hope following call will help you with:
$Regexp([A-HJ-NP-RT-Z]{5})

one more question, I am running the data generator with the following pattern parameters, $Regexp([A-HJ-NP-RT-Z]{5}), by my calculation there should be 6436343 possible unique results but DTM is stopping at 3488503, is three something i need to do in order to get all the results available?

There is some design limitation that does not allow to generate all possible values.
The key reason is performance.

There are 2 potential ways:
1) increase "Unique value generation attempts" option at Settings-> Execution page.
2) change generation method at all. I mean use sequential fill methods instead of random because sequential way covers all possible values in any case.

It I understand you right you want to change some columns and save another.
The "scramble" mode was designed for this purpose. It creates new table with scrambled data.

If you want to modify data in-place, it is "update" mode.
